Formal Dispute Process - Defaults Minimize

July 2008

The formal procedure to follow is the dispute process, as set out in the National Credit Act. The initial step is to contact the credit bureau where the default or blacklisting was loaded. In this case the default was loaded by TransUnion Credit Bureau. Please follow these steps to have this issue resolved:

  1. Contact TransUnion Credit Bureau and state you wish to dispute a blacklisting (Default). Their call centre number to contact is 0861 482 482. You will have to be able to supply your identity number, surname and first name as well as the reference of the listing which will be the Account number that is stated on the listing you received. They will then send you a form which you will need to fill in and return to TransUnion Credit Bureau.
  2. As soon as TransUnion Credit Bureau receives the form from you the disputed information will be removed and they will contact Credit Data Online. We as Credit Data Online, in turn will contact our client that loaded the default in order to substantiate the blacklisting (default) and see if they are able to provide us adequate details with evidence supporting the blacklisting. We will then be able to provide this evidence to TransUnion Credit Bureau. If we provide this information to TransUnion Credit Bureau within 20 working days and the evidence supports our client then the information will once again be put back on to your credit report.
  3. If no reply or proof is supplied within 20 working days or the blacklisting is found to be incorrect, the default is permanently removed from your credit report.
  4. Either way you will be informed of the outcome and be provided with an opportunity to take the matter further should you wish.
